In Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23 year-old Nigerian who attempted to blow up American aircraft performed transatlantic flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on December 25, indicted in the U.S. for "attempted murder" and "attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction."
Federal jury in Michigan indicted six charges against Abdulmutallab for the attempt of bombing, including attempted murder against the 289 passengers and crew of Flight 253 Delta / Northwest Christmas over Detroit, and attempt to use a weapon of mass destruction.
Only the charge of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction punishable by life imprisonment.
The 23 year old Nigerian who told investigators that the Al Qaeda in Yemen had given him the explosives that brought him and that he had trained in Yemen, had earlier accused of attempting to blow up flight 253 as the aircraft would land in Detroit, coming from Amsterdam.
The other categories are: attempted murder in a zone of U.S. jurisdiction, intentionally attempted destruction of aircraft, placing an explosive device with intent, possession of an explosive device and violence.
The first hearing will be held in a court in Detroit Friday.
